Patients are disrupting the publication environment—in a good way! Patients are increasingly involved in research, including as named authors on publications, and medical communicators need to understand this innovation and to know how to work effectively with patient authors.
This educational activity will help medical communicators gain an evidence-based and practical understanding of patient authorship, the factors driving it, its potential benefits and risks, how patient authorship may affect medical communicators, and how medical communicators may affect patient authorship. After participating in this activity, medical communicators will be in a better position to know how to work, ethically and effectively, with a new and important type of author, the patient author.
