Hyperkalemia, is a serious condition associated with increased risk of mortality, and is prevalent and recurrent in patients who suffer from cardio renal disorders including chronic kidney disease and heart failure. Although many factors predispose members to Hyperkalemia, current guidelines and quality metrics advocate and frequently mandate RAASi. Ironically, treatment with these life-saving interventions that are important for kidney and cardiac outcomes, frequently promote or exacerbate the chronic risk of Hyperkalemia. Weighing the risk of Hyperkalemia against the risk of discontinuing reno- and cardio-protective therapies can present a paradox to clinicians treating Hyperkalemia. Please join us to review the latest data on this serious life threatening condition that impacts the management of CKD and HF patients.
