Racial and ethnic minorities may face significant barriers when living with Alzheimer’s disease, including lack of health literacy, language limitations, cultural perceptions of normal and abnormal aging, perceived discrimination, and lack of or limited insurance. Understanding the prevalence, risk factors, clinical representation, and other disparities that impact African American and Hispanic American patients may help to break some of the barriers of health inequity for minority patients suffering from Alzheimer’s disease.
