This interactive panel discussion will highlight dual perspectives from academic research and life sciences on the value of radiomics in clinical trials, drug discovery and therapy response. Radiomics, think advanced imaging analytics, is an emerging field of science that leverages artificial intelligence and deep learning to access previously unobtainable data and insights from medical images.

During this session attendees will learn:

Challenges and practical strategies for radiomics use
Real world application of radiomics in research, drug discovery/development and treatment response
How radiomics can support evolving response evaluation criteria
The power of combining radiomics, genomics and clinical data to predict patient outcomes and personalize treatment
How advanced imaging analytics will support biomarker discovery and drive more personalized drug development

Robert Gillies, PhD
Martin Silbiger Endowed Chair
Chair, Cancer Physiology
Vice-chair, Radiology
Moffitt Cancer Center
Dr. Gillies and his lab are focused on understanding cancers as complex, heterogeneous and dynamic systems. He has a long-standing interest in detailed image analysis to better describe tumor physiology and, in 2009, he coined the term “Radiomics”. He has been a major contributor to this field ever since, primarily in improved diagnosis of lung and prostate cancer. He has published hundreds of peer-reviewed articles and participates in various NCI and NIH grants.

Fabien Maldonado, MD
Professor of Medicine and Thoracic Surgery
Vanderbilt University
Fabien Maldonado is a Professor of Medicine, Thoracic Surgery and Mechanical Engineering at Vanderbilt University, which he joined in July 2015, after serving 9 years as a faculty at Mayo Clinic in the division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine. His main research interests include clinical trials in interventional pulmonology, CT-based quantitative imaging for lung cancer and robotic bronchoscopy in collaboration with the Vanderbilt institute for Surgery and Engineering, with funding from the Department of Defense and the National Institutes of Health.
