This series will provide you with tools to critically process and analyze medical scientific literature. You will get a good understanding of basic statistical concepts and theory that enable you to explain, understand and interpret data.
These Webinars are practical and based on published articles and the analysis of these. You will work with the theory in practice to increase your understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of the statistics in scientific literature.
Become familiar with statistical terminology and concepts
- Understanding and presentation of descriptive data in scientific papers (descriptive data such as proportion, mean, standard deviation, median, range)
- P-values and 95% confident intervals
- Types of data (continuous vs categorical)
- Univariate statistical testing for continuous and categorical variables
Learn to set up hypotheses and hypothesis testing and understand how to display health and clinical data
- Hypothesis generation (null and alternative hypotheses)
- Methods used to test the hypothesis
- Types of plots (flow chart of patients, tornado plots, forest plots, etc..)
Recognize sources of bias and use of statistical methods to correct for bias
- Study designs and corresponding measures of association
- Interpretation of the measures of association
- Simple and multivariable regression (linear regression, logistic regression, survival analyses)
