Trump Seeks to Send Seniors $8 Billion in Drug Discount Cards on Eve of Election

October 16, 2020

Yesterday The Washington Post provided an update on President Trump’s plan to mail $200 drug-discount cards to approximately 40 million Medicare beneficiaries before the election. The plan comes with an $8 billion price tag and would be funded from two Medicare trust funds. If approved, the cards will be mailed in late October—preceded by $20 million worth of letters mailed to seniors informing them of the cards. And more importantly, who they have to thank for them. Democrats have already challenged the plan saying it is nothing more than an expensive ploy to influence the outcome fo the election. A White House spokesperson said the move “has nothing to do with politics.”
