Using Technology to Diversify Clinical Trials

Mirroring the shift towards widespread remote working arrangements, the COVID-19 pandemic triggered a push towards virtual and decentralized clinical trial (DCT) design. This change helped clinical researchers recruit more diverse and representative patient populations. Although virtual trials and DCTs helped reach people in areas that lack nearby trial centers, many people fell through the gaps due to the need for reliable broadband. The second of a two-part PharmaPhorum series explores how technology can empower diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts.

According to Falah Energy, “By bringing the trial to the patient, we can build upon established and trusted health practitioner-patient relationships. Patient-centric clinical trials also expand access to clinical trials beyond conventional trial sites which can be expensive and time consuming to travel to.”
