US Govt Signs COVID-19 Vaccine Deal With Pfizer and BioNTech Totalling $3.2 Billion

The US government has signed an agreement to purchase 105 million COVID-19 vaccine doses from Pfizer and BioNTech. The deal comes after the companies’ Omicron BA.1-adapted vaccines showed promising results in a Phase 2/3 clinical trial. As such, these two new versions of the vaccine may be included in the deal.

According to Emily Kimber, “One vaccine is monovalent and the other is bivalent, made up from a combination of the Pfizer/BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine and a vaccine candidate designed to target the spike protein of the Omicron BA.1 variant.”
