More and more colleges and universities are beginning to require that all published manuscripts from their faculty be made available for FREE! This sounds great for anyone seeking or looking to share knowledge, but don’t hop on board too soon! Think about the consequences:
- More journals going out of business (after all, who is going to want to pay for a journal subscription when they can get all the articles for free on line?),
- Major medical journals supported by drug advertising will continue to be published
- Remaining journals will have more submissions – leading to higher rejection rate
- Less exposure for scholarly work
- More pay to publish
