To Curb High Out-of-Pocket Costs, Drug Rebates Should Benefit Consumers

The Center for Medical Economics and Innovation at the Pacific Research Institute released a brief that concluded that one principal means of lowering overall health care costs and helping patients with expensive out-of-pocket drug costs would be to require reforms mandating that drug rebates benefit patients rather than payers. The briefs authors, Wayne Winegarden and Robert Popovian said, “Ironically, the current drug concession system is raising patient costs. Mandating that all drug concessions must benefit the patients purchasing the medicines is a positive reform that meaningfully addresses this problem.” Read more here.
