The Post-Pandemic Outlook for EMRs

The COVID-19 pandemic exposed numerous inefficiencies and points of improvement in several aspects of the healthcare system, including electronic medical records (EMRs). These changes could not be fully implemented at the time, but as the pandemic seemingly winding down, market research shows that the upgrades may not be far off. In a new Medical Device Online article, Inga Shugalo of Itransition lays out to key components of an efficient EMR system.

According to Shugalo, “Due to the above-mentioned transformation in patients, an EMR ceased to be a doctors-only tool for adequate care provision. Hence, now an EMR system should cater to the needs and interests of two user groups — clinicians and consumers. This extended focus makes us review several EMR principles. The top ones are interoperability, data analytics for clinicians and consumers, and integration with diverse systems, including consumer health trackers.”
