The Future of Telehealth for Outpatient Mental Healthcare is Uncertain

Intensive outpatient therapy moved to a telehealth model for safety reasons during the COVID-19, but whether this new model will remain unchanged as the pandemic winds down is uncertain. Telehealth for many patients has shown many benefits for health, especially with people with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD). However, there are some disadvantages to the approach.

According to a StatNews article by Mario Aguilar, “ Translating treatment to virtual for cases that require intensive outpatient treatment or partial hospitalization has its challenges. To start: It forces people to be on-camera promptly first thing in the morning and on a computer for hours on end.”
