Ten Actions to Address Black Maternal Health Inequity

Maternal death rates rose dramatically during the COVID-19 pandemic, disproportionately affecting Black mothers. An article published during Black Maternal Health Week by Blue Cross Blue Shield, author Kim Keck lists 10 actions to help address this disparity of health outcomes. Key to her recommendations is bridging the patient-provider trust gap, collecting and acting upon accurate data.

According to Keck, the firs step is to “Engage maternal voices and community stakeholders to craft, build and sustain a holistic maternal health program. Form public and private partnerships to address root causes of disparities, inequalities and social determinants of health.”
