Split Vote Blocks FTC Investigation into PBM’s Impact on Pharmacies

A 2-2 vote last week blocked the FTC’s investigation into the impact of pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs) on specialty pharmacies and smaller, independently-run general pharmacies. The even vote came after 2 hours of testimony from specialty and independent pharmacy representatives and, notably, no testimony on the side of PBMs.

According to the National Community Pharmacists Association, “After hearing hours of testimony by community pharmacists and patients, all of whom painted the same shocking picture about PBM abuse, and not a single witness there to defend the PBM industry, it is inexplicable that two members of the commission could vote against the study.”
