Some pharmacy benefit managers are reportedly considering net pricing models over rebates to drive major changes in PBM models without disrupting revenue streams, FierceHealthcare reports, and RxAdvance is among them.
The PBM, which is backed by insurance giant Centene, had a “very successful” rollout in Mississippi, Centene CEO Michael Neidorff and CFO Jeff Schwanake said during an investor conference Friday, Dec. 14.
Shifting toward net pricing could be a significant boon toward tackling transparency issues with current rebate-based models.
“I’ve been talking to them and saying, ‘How do we find a way using all these systems to get away from rebates and get to net pricing?'” Neidorff said. “You talk about ultimate transparency — that gets us there. If we can do some of that, we can be transformative and make some significant contributions in reducing healthcare costs.”
