RWD in a COVID-19 World

February 2, 2021

COVID-19 has been linked to the development of other, non-respiratory diseases including heart attacks. Understanding this correlation requires real world data (RWD). William Murk, Ph.D., M.P.H., at the Jacobs School of Medicine & Biomedical Sciences notes that one limitation of earlier studies seeking to understand the impact of COVID-19 was a small sample size.

According to Dr. Murk, “Although the spectrum of disease for COVID-19 is wide, this study confirms that it is primarily a respiratory disorder for most patients. When we hear about unusual manifestations of the disease, it is important to understand the risks to appreciate how relevant those manifestations actually are. According to our study, the risks for most non-respiratory complications are generally low in the general population.” Read more here.
