Real-World Evidence In China and Korea

February 11, 2022

A new Elevate article by the Medical Affairs Professional Society lays out opportunities for real-world evidence (RWE) implementation in China and Korea. Unlike the patchwork of different healthcare databases in western countries, both Korea and China have all-encompassing government-run real-world data (RWD) repositories. However, the potential of these datasets is untapped because they are tightly controlled and only accessible to a small number of approved researchers.

According to the Elevate article, “Regulatory approvals in APAC countries remain almost exclusively dependent on clinical trials. However, in these countries, researchers primarily within academia working with funding from industry are starting to define methodology for the use of RWE to inform regulatory decisions.”
