Promoting Health Equity and Community Health with Medicaid Reinvestment Requirements

Several states have adopted policies that make Medicaid managed care plans put money back into local communities to promote health equity and community health by targeting social determinants of health (SDoH) associated with poor health outcomes. According to the authors, “There have long been concerns that public health coverage should not be a source of significant profit taking for health plans. Returning at least some funds to communities helps address that concern; it also provides reputational benefits to MCPs.”
