Pricing a COVID-19 Vaccine
June 27, 2020
A recent episode of NPR’s INDICATOR offers a look at the issue of pricing a vaccine for COVID-19.
The episode featured Michael Kinch, who heads the Centers for Research Innovation in Biotechnology and Drug Development.
Kinch said the price of a COVID-19 vaccine might prove “surprising” to some due to drugmakers utilizing patents they don’t own in the development process.
“And so that’s unfortunately the new reality – is that the vaccines that come out of this, and perhaps including COVID, could end up being priced at a point that will – many people will find surprising and even shocking,” he said.
