The Total Care Network, BlueCross BlueShield Association’s network of accountable care organizations and patient-centered medical homes, has reportedly seen costs cut by 32 percent so far this year by using value-based payment models, HealthPayerIntelligence reports.
The network has also helped payers lower hospitalization of beneficiaries by about 15 percent and ED admissions by 10 percent in the first year.
“We are encouraged by our results here to continue to promote and grow these types of programs across the country,” BCBSA Senior Vice President of Commercial Markets and Enterprise Data Solutions Kari Hedges said. “BCBSA is working towards the advancement of these program, maturing these programs and having more patients get access to value-based care that is focused on outcomes and improving patient care.”
Highmark Health Plan, according to the report, was also able to post $260 million in savings last year by tailoring performance-based contracts to participating health care providers.
