A panel on Monday during ISPOR’s 2018 meeting shined a spotlight on the role of value assessments in private payer coverage and formulary decision-making.
Tufts Medical Center professor James Chambers, panel moderator, kicked off the discussion with an overview of how often payers cited health technology assessments in their coverage decisions.
According to Chambers and his colleagues, out of some 27,000 citations, data gathered from HTAs were cited in a meager four percent of cases. Some 46 percent of those cases were out of the U.K.
“Some payers are going outside of the United States for this information,” Chambers said.
