Baylor University Medical Center’s Milton Packer is not one of the many voices touting Apple’s newest watch, which comes with heart-monitoring functionality.
In a blog post published on MedPage Today, Packer states there has been a tremendous amount of hype surrounding the Apple Watch Series 4, noting American Heart Association President Ivor Benjamin’s description of the app as “game-changing.”
However, the data surrounding the watch’s heart-monitoring capabilities leaves something to be desired, Packer writes.
“Is this data summary accurate?” Packer writes. “I do not know. Typically the evidence that supports a new drug or device is publishing in the peer-reviewed medical literature. But as far as I know, the evidence supporting the device has not been subject to peer review.”
