OptumRx Report Critical of $3.6K Topical Gel Price Tag, Highlights Rising Prices of Wound Care Products

Pharmaceutical companies selling wound care products are being criticized for their high prices, especially when generic offerings are sometimes over a hundred-fold cheaper. Sil-K PAD costs $5499 while a generic version is 125-fold cheaper at $44. Toplical gel Foraxa is priced at $3615 while the generic Regenecare gel is only $21. Optum’s Vigilant Drug Program may offer a solution to these low-value offerings.

According to Savitha Vivian, senior vice president of clinical and formulary services at OptumRx, “The existence of these products is not new,” adding, “I think what’s new is that there’s more and more of these coming to market.” Read more here.
