Oncology RWE Fitness Assessments Accelerated by Multisource Datasets

December 2, 2021

In response to an article in Values & Outcomes Spotlight, Mary Tran discusses how a multisource data strategy may streamline relevance assessment of real-world databases. There are no clearly established specifications and criteria to evaluate the fitness of real-world data (RWD) for real-world evidence (RWE) use cases. Using a broader dataset, Tran proposes, RWD is more likely to pass fitness tests. In addition, multisource RWD could help tackle multiple research questions in oncology with greater efficiency and lower costs.

According to Tran, “… when a broader dataset is applied, RWD have the potential to support an expansive ecosystem of partners with patient identification for clinical trials, health disparities and outcomes research, tailoring optimal treatment regimens, understanding distinct populations, handoffs from nononcology and oncology providers, and developing more cost-efficient external control arms. The ability to leverage one rich dataset to answer multiple questions promotes efficiency and therefore time and cost savings.”
