Modern Healthcare Executive (MHE) in a recent report offered some key takeaways from the Anthem-Aspire acquisition.
While the move is a bid by Anthem to bolster patients’ health care experiences, how the payer will include Aspire Health’s facets in an expanded business model remains uncertain.
“The specific acquisition of Aspire Health, with its predictive analytics and comprehensive care team, appears to be additive to the care management capabilities of Anthem’s existing CareMore Health and AIM Specialty Health affiliates,” Precision for Value’s Joseph Honcz tells MHE. “The question that remains is: How will the ‘extra layer of support’ that Aspire Health brings to the table be integrated into the Anthem business, and what value will it bring?”
Some of the takeaways of the acquisition mentioned in MHE’s report include:
- “It is not yet clear if all the M&A activity by established insurers with national footprints can deliver on the local level, or if they will be outmoded by some disruptive startup”; and
- “Advanced illness program provide patient satisfaction, while reducing hospitalization and decreasing costs in general.”
