JAMA Study Uses Population Health Data to Understand the Economic Impact of COVID-19

Researchers in Australia sought to understand the impact of COVID-19 using population health data. The article, published in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA),assesses how COVID-19 suppression strategies affected gross domestic product (GDP), infection rates, and healthcare costs.

The authors note, “[A] proportional multistate life table (PMSLT) was created to estimate the health-adjusted life-years (HALYs) associated with COVID-19 and costs for the health systems and GDP. The ABM represented a genetic COVID-19 model of 2500 agents, or stimulants, and was scaled up to the population of interest.” Read more here.
