ISPOR Article Discusses Assigning Value to Novel Therapies

A new article, published in ISPOR’s Value in Health journal, discusses widespread research and development trends. Although exciting new scientific advances have led to novel therapies, these therapies have placed immense burden on patients and payers. Determining the value of a therapy is challenging, yet necessary.

William Padula remarks, “Healthcare is experiencing a renaissance of innovation in curative therapies. Diseases that once affected millions and caused countless fatalities are now only a course of treatment away from passive management or complete elimination from the human body,” adding, “[E]ach of these cures has come at a tremendous price—not just to the manufacturers who develop them—but also to those who share such burden on the receiving end, most notably payers and patients.” Read more here.
