IngenioRx’s May 31 drug trend report breaks down how pharmacy benefit managers can stand out in an ever-changing landscape, according to an MMIT blog post.
The report from the PBM being developed by Anthem suggests that PBMs constantly analyze and play a strong role in prescription drug cost management through consumers’ medical and pharmacy benefits.
“That’s a key differential in our report that you’re not going to see anywhere else, and the numbers aren’t going to match up and compare, because those competitors aren’t considering medical drug spend,” Anthem President of Clinical and Specialty Pharmacy Colleen Haines says.
According to IngenioRx’s report, inflation in 2017 was the top driver of drug trends.
“New drugs entering the market, which were predominantly high-cost specialty drugs, also impacted 2017 drug trends,” the report states.
