IBM’s Watson Health Data Assets Sold to Francisco Partners

IBM sold data assets that were central to its Watson Health division late last month. This marks yet another piece of its once-heralded but ultimately unsuccessful healthcare AI framework being sold off as the company seeks to cut its losses. Francisco Partners, who purchased the assets, also recently bought Office Ally, whose flagship cloud-based software facilitates data transfer between providers, payers, and patients.

According to Casey Ross of STAT News, “The string of acquisitions may telegraph a plan to combine the acquired businesses into a larger entity focused on compiling and distributing health data to an industry hungry to feed artificial intelligence tools and other software products.But Francisco Partners has not made its plans clear. Its executives could not be immediately reached for comment.”
