HTA in the USA: ICER vs NICE

The Institute for Clinical and Economic Review (ICER) has a reputation for performing high-quality independent health technology assessments (HTAs) in the US with a focus on cost-effectiveness. In that regard, ICER is similar to the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) in England and Wales.  However, there are key differences between ICER and NICE in the structure of HTA programs, process, and the use of HTA in decision making. These key differences arise mainly due to important differences between the UK single-payer system and the US’ largely privatized healthcare system. Read the full study here.
