How Will States Tackle Unsupported Price Increases?

ICER’s report on UPIs (Unsupported Price Increases) has led lawmakers to consider legislative measures to restrict the prices of prescription drugs. Hawaii and Washington legislators recently proposed high taxes to curb unjustified price increases. The NASHP (National Academy for State Health Policy) has released a template intended to support legislators in drafting pricing regulation bills.

“The model bill penalizes manufacturers for 80 percent of their drug sales from unsupported price increases in a state – representing millions in potential revenue that can be used to help reduce prescription drug costs for consumers. NASHP can work with states to estimate potential revenue from this legislation.” Read more here.
