How Will Coming HHS Interoperability Mandate Affect Payer’s Market Access?

A new interoperability mandate will take effect in July 2021 and is expected to shift how data can be shared. Data will be required to be more easily accessed and shared across platforms and among payers. This ruling is expected to make waves in healthcare and some payers have expressed concerns. However, this mandate may be a valuable opportunity for some payers to distinguish themselves from the rest of the competition.

According to IDC Insight’s Jeff Rivkin, “It’s just the tip of the iceberg. We’re going to see a lot of data exchanged. And if you don’t have a fairly robust platform to be able to do that, you’re going to hurt next year, too,” adding, “The idea that retail companies have had for years of loyalty and stickiness…is now relevant to health insurance.” Read more here.
