How is it Possible For an X-ray Price to Be Unknowable? Convenience!

On Thursday a panel of three judges heard oral arguments in a case that could usher in a great many changes within the larger hospital industry. However, some health economists argue that it will harm consumers in the form of higher prices. During proceedings, the hospital lobby argued that government cannot lawfully compel healthcare providers to publicize rates they reach with insurers for services provided to patients. An unsatisfied and skeptical Judge Merrick Garland pressed the hospital lobby on their claim that the price of an X-ray is unknowable because it is not feasible to provide neat, itemized price lists for consumers.
