How much value can be found in the new crop of value tools? According to recent findings by Avalere Health consultants, not much! Avalere looked at value calculators developed by the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN), the Peter Bach, MD, at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, and the Institute for Clinical and Economic Review (ICER). Out of 11 plans surveyed, none of them had used the new value tool instruments, and only 9% indicated they were likely to consider using three of the four value tools. ICER, who has worked hard to attract payers, was ironically shunned completely according to these results. Find out more here. (Source: Ed Silverman, Managed Care, October 2016)
