Going Below the Surface’s latest newsletter highlights two studies focused on wasteful spending in the health care system.
According to the newsletter, spending on wasteful care accounted for more than $1 trillion in spending annually.
“Health care waste is often viewed as an intractable systemic issue, but some of the most encouraging and though-provoking experiments in rooting out wasteful care are being conducted by employers, who are uniquely positioned to advocate for lower-cost, higher-quality care,” the newsletter states.
The National Pharmaceutical Council launched the Going Below the Surface initiative in 2018 to “broaden and improve the conversation around how we use health care resources in the United States.”
