Geisinger Health System is taking a new approach to deliver digital health care solutions by working with pharmaceutical companies, according to a FierceHealthcare report.
According to the report, Geisinger has previously developed a mobile app with AstraZeneca to manage asthma, as well as a wearable app with Purdue to help patients manage pain. The health system also developed digital tools in partnership with Merck to bolster health care coordination and drug adherence.
Mike Evans, Geisinger’s chief pharmacy officer and vice president of enterprise pharmacy, tells FierceHealthcare pharma companies developed their own set of digital tools, but there was room for improvement. Evans says the health system had considered whether partnering with companies could help address waste and bolster net benefits.
“Most people don’t think that large pharma has an interest in patient care, when in reality, they do,” Evans said.
