Health insurance providers are taking big steps to help drive down costs for patients, according to an opinion piece by Matt Eyles, president and CEO of America’s Health Insurance Plans.
“Health insurance providers are using innovative solutions to protect patients and be responsible stewards of their premium dollars,” he writes. “Our commitment is to ensure that patients get the best possible care at the lowest possible price.”
Eyles in his write up says there are three “essential programs” that are helping payers “better serve patients and protect both their physician and financial health.”
One strategy, he writes, is using evidence-based medical management strategies that can bolster care delivery.
“Just like how doctors use scientific evidence to determine the safest, most-effective treatments, health insurance providers partners with doctors and nurses to help identify the clinical or alternative approaches that have better results, better outcomes and better efficiencies — based on the latest evidence,” Eyles writes.
