Express Scripts is pulling up its sleeves to improve medication adherence in patients by partnering with digital health companies, Pharmacy Times reports.
The pharmacy benefit manager recently released research which showed the need for a robust adherence strategy.
Of 800 survey takers on any medication for a chronic condition, roughly 1 in 3 said “they are not concerned about forgetting to take their medication, despite the fact that almost one-half believe it is the most important thing they can do to protect their health.”
In the same survey, 54 percent believed they were better than others about taking their medications.
The survey found two-thirds of the participants said incentives would improve their adherence, and that younger people would more likely use third-party applications and devices as medication reminders.
Though the study was recent, Express Scripts has been involved with several digital health companies over several years, including Mango Health and Propeller Health.
