A group of experts during the Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy’s annual meeting in Boston discussed the ongoing evolution of communication between manufacturers and payers.
The presentation was conducted by:
- Jay Jackson, Xcenda senior vice president of consulting services;
- Kat Wolf Khachatourian, QualChoice Health Plan Services vice president of strategic care transformation;
- Nneka Onwudiwe, PRO/PE scientific reviewer for the U.S. government; and
- Soumi Saha, AMCP director of pharmacy and regulatory affairs.
A survey by Xcenda found health care economic information (HCEI) was “somewhat” to “extremely” important for formulary or policy decision by some 79 percent of the respondents in 2016. The same survey in 2017 found 84 percent of the respondents had the same opinion.
Roughly two-thirds of survey respondents in 2016 and 2017, according to a report on AMCP, said they perceived a gap in needed and available HCEI; half say the formulary decision-making process could benefit by addressing the gap.
