Essential Tremor Device Backed Up by Real-World Evidence

September 28, 2022

Essential tremor (ET) is the most common disorder tied to trembling, but treatment options are limited. A new real-world evidence (RWE) study of Cala’s Trio device, which uses electrical stimulation to reduce ET, has found it provided substantial sustained relief for ET. The study used real-world data (RWD) from 321 users, finding that the device reduced tremors by 71% on average.

According to Sean Whooley, “Cala observed no loss of effect with use for longer than one year. Additionally, it saw no significant reduction in tremor power improvement between the first 90 days and beyond a year. Patients completing multiple sessions in one day experienced no loss of effect, too. They used therapy an average of five to six times per week, having been instructed by physicians to use therapy as needed.”
