Drug Pricing Legislation Potentially on the Horizon in New Legislative Session

Amid anti-public health measures popping up in several state legislatures, some Democratic senators are proposing drug pricing measures. Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-Ga.) has put forward a bill that would limit insulin copays to $35 a month. The bill has the support of Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.), and is seen as a priority item, especially given voters’ complaints about the exorbitant cost of the life-saving drug and the pressures of the upcoming midterm elections.
However, David Mitchel, the founder of Patients for Affordable Drugs, is quoted in a STAT News article as saying, “We think it’s a mistake if Sen. Schumer makes that bill a priority. We think it’s a mistake if Sen. Schumer makes that bill a priority.”
