Dr. Hasan Shanawani, a top physician at the Department of Veterans Affairs, recently lit up his Twitter feed following a frustrating health care event involving his father, who had been admitted with a spinal fracture, and a convoluted health system.
According to a Kaiser Health News report, Shanawani experienced a lack of cooperation from hospital staff when attempting to gather more information about why his father was deemed an “observation care” patient instead of having admitted him as an inpatient.
While the issue was ultimately resolved, it wasn’t an episode Shanawani will forget.
“I was gearing up 2hit the c-suite, but good people made the problem go away, for my dad,” he said in a tweet. “The system is still an awful mess, & I fully intend to approach them next week–once dad is in the clear.”
