Despite Limitations, Claims Data Still Useful in Fight Against COVID-19

The use of healthcare claims data in studying infectious disease has historically been rather limited. There are many other sources of data much better suited to the study of infectious disease. However, all that changed with the emergence of COVID-19. Although claims data do have a role to play in the present crisis, it is important to keep in mind the limitations of these data. To many who are more familiar with other patient-level data, these limitations may not be readily apparent.
