COVID-19 Exposes Limitations of Traditional Quality Measures

COVID-19 has highlighted many weaknesses in the healthcare system including slow implementation of clinical guidelines and development of quality measures to assess implementation. Critical to building a digital system aimed at reliably assessing quality measures is the ability to access to data from a variety of sources including electronic health records (EHRs), health information exchanges (HIEs), and registries. A digital ecosystem composed of such data assets will allow evidence synthesis from multiple systems by employing AI and other tools to assess patterns and trends in real-time. Ideally, such an ecosystem will support digital quality measures (dQMs) that address the limitations of traditional quality measures. Read more here.
