COVID-19 Data Destruction Investigation Begins at the University of Florida

Following several complaints that University of Florida faculty members were pressured to delay or destroy COVID-19 research data, the university has begun a formal investigation into the matter. Dr. Danaya Wright, a co-author of the internal report that started the investigation, suggests that state government agencies are likely involved. However, Governor Ron DeSantis (R) denies this claim.
According to a CNN article by Leyla Santiago and Alta Spells, “The issues noted in the report include, “external pressure to destroy deidentified data, barriers to accessing and analyzing deidentified data in a timely manner, and barriers to publication of scientific research.” These issues created “challenges” for faculty to contribute scientific findings during a world-wide pandemic, the report summarized.”
