Course Correction in Precision Medicine ‘Urgently Needed,’ Cooper, Paneth Say

“A course correction is urgently needed,” Loyola University Medical School’s Dr. Richard Cooper and Michigan State University’s Nigel Paneth write, referring to precision medicine, in a recent opinion piece published on STAT.

Cooper and Paneth write that a “civil war” has begun in the biomedicine landscape with precision medicine in one corner and population health in the other.

“Although advocates of a more public health focused approach to biomedical research are beginning to make their voices heard, and the failures of the predictions of genomic enthusiasts are becoming increasingly evident, the biomedical research establishment continues to dig in its heels,” they write.
