Health care in America is expensive – everyone can agree on that, but, if you’re looking for an exact reason… that may be a little harder to find! Every area in healthcare has an explanation for their share and has another group to point fingers at and blame. However, this recent ProPublica article points to something we can all agree on. Hospitals are THROWING AWAY perfectly good, non-expired, unopened supplies every day! While the patients may not be billed directly for a lot of this waste, the cost is still part of the hospital’s overhead and will affect pricing. Unfortunately, there is not much information available as to how much of a problem this is, but if hospitals started paying attention to the $ amount of their waste, they would be shocked! Find out more here and learn about what people like Elizabeth McLellan are doing about the situation. (Source: Marshall Allen, ProPublica, 3/9/17)
