Pharmacies and providers can coordinate with each other to generate the necessary information to possibly expedite both prior authorizations and prescription fills, Meds in Motion Pharmacy President and pharmacist Dan Richard writes in a recent blog post.
Richard writes that prior authorizations are so cumbersome, some physicians write “less-effective prescriptions because they know the preferred drug will require a prior authorization.”
Read-only access to a provider’s electronic medical records system could be a step in the right direction, according to Richard.
“Doing so creates a touchless system for providers that decreases downtime in the prescription-filling process and ultimately gets patients the best prescriptions, faster,” Richard writes.
