Insurance giant Cigna and its PBM arm, Express Scripts, recently announced a new program aimed at cutting the cost of insulin for a number of patients, STAT reports.
However, per the report, the reduced prices will not reach every consumer with Cigna as their insurer or Express Scripts as their PBM. Employers will have to sign off the the change in plan design for some people to see those benefits.
“There are a limited number of categories where the daily use of the medicine is life and death,” Express Scripts Senior Vice President and Chief Innovation Officer Glen Stettin said. “And seeing people make what seem irrational decisions to try and stretch things, that’s not acceptable to us. And that’s why we’re trying to do something about it.”
