Biden’s Executive Order Puts $2 Billion Into Biomanufacturing Initiative

September 15, 2022

US President Joe Biden signed an executive order this Monday, September 12th, that would dedicate a total of $2 billion. The investment would go to the project’s goal to strengthen the country’s biotech supply chain and reduce dependence on foreign manufacturing, a need made pertinent by critical biotech supply shortages during the COVID-19 pandemic,

According to Allison DeAngelis, “As part of the administration’s new initiative, the Department of Defense will invest $1 billion over the next five years to help public- and private-sector organizations expand their manufacturing capacity. Another $40 million will be used to expand production of antibiotics and the starting materials needed to produce ‘essential medications and respond to pandemics,’ according to a press release.”
